Absolutely stunning historic villa in the most prime location in Pontevedra's old city; there isn't a better choice for history buffs (or Camino de Santiago walkers; it's also right on the Way.) The concierge staff is absolutely lovely! They were warm and welcoming and helped us resolve multiple small things in fluent English and German. Super hospitality. The room was a large suite with full bathtub, sitting room, wardrobe, desk and large bed. Vintage Spanish design with modern touches; everything very clean and proper. I loved the big old iron key to our room; very atmospheric. We slept wonderfully and I really appreciated the antiques and original building features on display; I felt like a medieval countess.

This was a rest day stop for us on the Camino and we stayed 2 nights, This was the second Parador we stayed at on our Camino and this Parador hotel was much more of what we expected of a Parador. Our room had some distinctive charm we had hoped for. The hallways and gathering areas had old world decorative elegance and furnishings. The old town location in Pontevedra is nice and safe. We did not choose dinner at this Parador since we wanted an outside of the old town "locals" experience. First night dinner - Semplice. Trattoria Italiana (very nice - 10 minute walk), Second night - Pizzaría NONNA CLARA trattoria (a very nice owner and the pizza was good).

I love to stay in Paradors if possible when in Spain so I booked this parador for my Camino walking friends and me. Pontevedra is a great town and this parador is very nicely located to see all the points of interest in town. You can see the history thoughout the hotel. The hotel staff was kind to arrange a taxi ride that would sit and wait for us as we toured the monastery of Xoan de Poio so we could see the huge mosaic mural of the Camino (it was spectacular). We would be walking past the monastery the next day, but it would be closed- so taxiing out and back was our only option. The rooms at the hotel were comfortable.

Come for the Parador experience, including a phenomenal restaurant. After our stay in Pontevedra, we are thinking of doing a trip just to a selection of Parador experiences in Spain. This place is a restored 16th century palace and treats you like you're a personal guest of Count Maceda himself. Large room, semi-comfy beds. But mostly the restaurant, which specializes in local cuisine. We couldn't decide on the dishes, so got more than we could eat just to taste. Do not regret this decision one bit. For breakfast make sure to get the CHURROS. Just do it.

This was my second stay at the Parador de Pontevedra while walking the Portuguese Coastal camino. The hotel is historic and a lovely treat for leg weary pilgrims. The room was warm, spacious, and very comfortable, with windows that open to allow fresh air in the room. The location is ideal, not far from the camino, and while located in the historic old town, is only a short walk to cafes, farmacias, supermercados and the newer part of town. I would recommend this as a splurge for pilgrims.
